The Rewrite
“You rewrote our ending in ash,
yet I remain the spark you could never extinguish.”
I see it now, how you rewrote me,
how you dipped your brush in shadow
and covered everything gold.
You made me smaller in the retelling,
made me sharp where I was soft,
made me reckless where I was real.
You took my warmth and called it wildfire.
You took my patience and called it pretending.
You took my love and called it a burden.
Because it’s easier that way, isn’t it?
Easier to leave something broken
than to admit you just couldn’t hold it.
Easier to paint me as the storm
than to say you were afraid of the rain.
But I know the truth.
I do not have to argue with ghosts.
I do not have to beg for a version of me
that only ever lived in your mind.
I was golden.
And I still am.
And one day, when the light hits right,
you will see the parts of me
you tried to erase.
And you will know—
you were never running from me.
You were running from the way I saw you.
“One day, you’ll read the story you rewrote
and wonder why the ending still haunts you.”
